Neuromodulators are a class of injectables that include popular brands such as Botox™. This is a naturally occurring protein that relaxes muscles. This type of injectable is often used for cosmetic purposes. However, they have uses far beyond physical appearances. Health Canada has approved the use of Botox™ for medical conditions.

By relaxing the muscles and blocking the activation of sweat glands, Botox™ is very useful for relieving headaches and jaw pain caused due to muscles in the head. It is also a popular means of treating hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).  All neuromodulators treatments are temporary and minimally invasive, with a needle placed only directly in the immediate layers of the skin.

Neuromodulator for Excessive Sweating

Excessive production of sweat is called hyperhidrosis. This condition is both embarrassing and uncomfortable. Botox is a safe, effective, and straightforward treatment for this problem. The treatment usually takes only a few minutes to administer and the results can last for months! No more worrying about awkward wet spots on clothing or stains! Botox temporarily blocks the nerves that turn on the sweat glands. This stops sweat production on the region of skin treated.

Many patients find eliminating this condition helps restore confidence when excessive sweating has been causing concerns. Evidence shows 95% of patients with hyperhidrosis no longer need to worry about which clothes to wear, can exercise without concern, go on holiday to hotter climates or hold the hands of loved ones without worrying about how much sweat they produced.

Common areas treated are underarms, hands, feet, upper face, and groin.

Neuromodulator for Headaches & Jaw Pain

The first clinical application of Botox was not for cosmetics but for relieving pain related to muscle spams. Similar to these first results, evidence shows Botox can prevent or minimize headaches. Botox achieves this by temporarily relaxing key muscles in the forehead, neck, and shoulders. This treatment involves injecting Botox into specific areas around the head, neck and upper back every 3-4 months.

Jaw (Temporomandibular) Pain:

Many experience pain in and around the ear and jaw, often accompanied by headaches, tension, the inability to open and close the mouth comfortably, and painful clicking, popping, or grinding sounds when speaking, chewing, or yawning. Many reasons can cause this discomfort. A common cause is unknowingly clenching the jaw, often during sleep. Botox can ease or eliminate this discomfort by relaxing the muscles around the jaw involved in is unintentional jaw clenching.

There is no preparation needed for neuromodulator injections; however, we do recommend you schedule a free consultation from our Medical Doctors. This is in order to evaluate if neuromodulators or another treatment is the best option to achieve your desired goals.

All treatments begin with a free consultation where our Medical Doctors who are trained in the use of Botox will address your concerns. During this consult a customized treatment plan will be devised. This process involves taking your medical history, along with your satisfaction with any past treatments sought. Next, your concerns are fully explored by our Medical Doctors and any solutions offered by neuromodulators are outlined in detail.

Unlike other providers you may encounter, all of our neuromodulators are administered by Medical Doctors, 100% of the time.

During the treatment itself, our Medical Doctors will carefully inject neuromodulators at specific anatomical points with a very small needle. Most people feel at most a quick pinch from the injection. If requested, the doctor can apply local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort. When this option is used the pinch is nearly indistinguishable from the gentle pressure of a light touch. In most cases, neuromodulator treatments can easily be completed in under thirty minutes.

Neuromodulators have very minimal to no downtime. At most, one can expect some localized swelling and/or redness for a few hours following. Otherwise, this procedure requires no recovery time.

Immediately following a neuromodulator treatment, you may return to nearly all normal activities with no issues. You may have some slight redness or swelling at the injection site, but this usually resolves spontaneously within a few hours.

You will begin to see results from neuromodulators within a few days (3-4 on average), with most of the results appearing within a week. It is important to note that the results are a very natural looking expression rather than the common misunderstanding of a “frozen” face. You will notice a change. Most people describe this charge as appearing well rested, refreshed, or softened.

Hyperhidrosis is usually caused by the peripheral nervous system and brain mistakenly sending messages to stimulate the sweat glands in the skin. Normally such signals are sent when one is feeling hot. But such signals can happen for other reasons such as stress or hormones. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to have a genetic predisposition to this condition.

During your consultation, our Medical Doctors explore the potential reasons for your excessive sweating and determine the best treatment plan to address this concern.

Botox uses the same process by which it relaxes muscles to also temporarily disable the link between sweat glands in the skin and the nerves that control them. This decoupling of nerves and the sweat glands prevents nerves from turning on. The result is that undesired sweat is no longer produced while the Botox is working.

The cost of a neuromodulator treatment varies with each person based on the area treated, their current anatomy, and their desired results. These factors determine how many injections and what doses of neuromodulator is necessary or whether other treatments or procedures should be performed as part of the overall treatment plan. During your consultation the cost as well as payment options are thoroughly reviewed. We accept cash, credit cards and debt.
